Girl Scouts + Goodwill = Donation Drive!

Girl Scout Ellen Black wanted to host a Goodwill donation drive in her Marvin neighborhood as a community service project to earn her Girl Scouts’ Gold Award, and of course, we were thrilled!

On Saturday, August 28, we’ll have a “Don’t Dump. Donate!” trailer parked at the intersection of Rea Road and Tom Short Road next to CVS from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Goodwill staff and volunteers from Troop 851 will help load donations of computers, electronics, and household items. Electronics parts will be recycled by Goodwill in an environmentally-friendly way, and computer hard drives will be crushed or wiped clean to destroy any information before they’re recycled or refurbished. (As always, donors will get receipts for tax purposes.)

“Most people I talk to are excited about the drive because they have old computers and cell phones and don’t know what to do with them,” Ellen says. “I really want the community to know there’s a safe way to dispose of your computers and electronics so harmful materials don’t wind up in our landfills.”

Mark your calendars for August 28, and if you’re in the neighborhood, stop by, meet Ellen, and drop off your old electronics equipment (even your Zach Morris cell phone) that’s been collecting dust in the attic. Every donation helps us fund our job training and employment programs!
