Goodwill’s free Commercial Carpentry training program is designed to prepare students for an entry-level job in commercial carpentry at a step higher than the typical new hire with limited experience. Key aspects of the program will include metal stud framing, drywall hanging and drywall finishing. Upon successful completion, students will have a firm grasp of general carpentry fundamentals. The ideal graduate will be an excellent candidate for a mentorship/apprenticeship position with an industry professional drywall hanger, finisher or framer.

Training Location

This program takes place in person at the Goodwill Construction Skills Training Center, our state-of-the-art training facility located in west Charlotte.

Certification Opportunities

If you successfully complete Goodwill’s free Carpentry training program, you will receive the NCCER (National Center for Construction Education and Research) certification for Carpentry Level 1.

Requirements for Completion

To successfully complete Goodwill’s Commercial Carpentry training program, you must:

  • Have at least an 85% attendance rate
  • Achieve a passing score (70%) on all module tests
  • Pass the Performance Profile tests for each module
  • Complete the practicum (final project) for Carpentry 1
  • Complete all activities in Carpentry 2

Prerequisite

In order to enroll in Goodwill’s Carpentry training program, you must first successfully complete Goodwill’s Construction Basics training program and obtain the NCCER CORE Certification.

Wraparound Services

When you take one of our training programs, you get the added benefit of working with several of our teams to make sure you are fully prepared to take the next step and land a job! These teams are:

  • Career Navigation team: each participant will be assigned a career navigator who provides ongoing career coaching and employability skills training such as help developing your resume, crafting an elevator pitch, preparing for a job interview and more.
  • Employer Engagement team: provides mock interview and employment assistance to all program participants by partnering with employers to facilitate employer-led training, job site tours, hiring events and direct job placements.
