I can’t count how many times I’ve been in Goodwill, seen something that I knew was on my shopping list, but couldn’t remember if it was the right size, dimensions, or color to fit what I was looking for. It’s a shame to pass up something great, but at the same time, it’s also no fun to buy something to bring it home and it not work. My solution: a thrifting tote!
Put together your own bag of thrifting supplies, throw it in the car, and you’ll be ready any time you swing by a Goodwill. Now you’ll never be stuck wondering if that rug will fit into your dining room, if that chair will slide into that tiny corner nook, or if those window treatments will match your walls.
Here are my suggestions for what to include in your bag so that you are always prepared to size up those Goodwill treasures:
1. your shopping list
2. list of measurements to know how much space you have to work with (useful when shopping for rugs, furniture, bedding, window treatments, etc.)
3. tape measure
4. paint swatches
5. shopping bags to take your treasures home
6. antibacterial hand gel
7. a snack, in case you decide to hit a few stores
Happy thrifting!
