Launched in 1970 to bring attention to environmental issues, Earth Day is a time to promote earth-friendly practices such as recycling and sustainable living. We all do our part in recycling small items — bottles, newspapers, cans, and so on — but what about the larger things? Unfortunately, due to furniture’s unwieldy size and materials, it can be challenging for consumers to find responsible and easy solutions for recycling these larger household goods.
Goodwill Industries of the Southern Piedmont is proud to announce we’re partnering with IKEA Charlotte to offer a simple and rewarding solution for donating used furniture. During the annual Furniture Take Back held in conjunction with IKEA’s “Sustainable Living Your Way” event on Earth Day (this Saturday, April 22), representatives from Goodwill will be on hand in the IKEA Charlotte parking lot from 9:30 a.m. – 6 p.m. to accept your furniture donations and issue tax receipts. As a reward for your generous donation, you’ll receive a coupon for $20 off an IKEA purchase of $150 or more, valid April 22 – May 21, 2017 (limit one per household).
Furniture received at the IKEA Charlotte “Sustainable Living Your Way” event and sold in our Goodwill retail stores will fund job training and employment services free of charge for individuals in our community facing barriers to employment, such as lack of skills, experience or education, and those with criminal backgrounds.
The IKEA Charlotte “Sustainable Living Your Way” event will also include an array of in-store activities, including workshops, giveaways and discounts. IKEA family members will have the chance to win a $100 gift card (four winners per store), as well as a SLADDA bicycle ($399 value, one winner per store), plus sustainable living games and workshops will take place throughout the day.
Items accepted at the Earth Day event include: bed frames, bedside tables, dressers, bookcases, armoires, dining tables and chairs, sideboards, desks and desk chairs, file cabinets, sofas, coffee tables, side tables and other furniture products from any brand or maker. Items not accepted include: mattresses, bedding, children’s furniture and used children’s products or toys.
Please join us as we celebrate Earth Day, and support IKEA and Goodwill’s joint mission of promoting sustainable living and strong communities!
IKEA Charlotte is located at 8300 IKEA Blvd, Charlotte, N.C. 28262. For more information about the event, please visit IKEA Charlotte’s website here.
