DIY Halloween: Bridal costume inspiration

Vintage wedding dresses are a staple item at most of our Goodwill locations, but did you know that they are also the perfect beginning to a fabulous Halloween costume? While you might not want to save a dress with a high collar, long sleeves or layers of lace for your own wedding, those dresses are like gold for those who want to DIY a creative costume this year.

1. Zombie/Vampire Bride

Zombies and vampire brides are in demand in recent years (we’re not surprised after the success of the Twilight films), and it’s super easy to DIY a bridal costume that will leave your friends with chills. Grab a dress and a few accessories from Goodwill, some fake blood and makeup and you’ll have everything you need. Click here for a tutorial and photo source.

2. Princess Kate Middleton

The most popular princess these days is a beautiful inspiration for a Halloween costume. You can either choose a long-sleeved lace gown as your inspiration for a bridal princess look, or choose one of her many iconic dresses and go Goodwill hunting! Click here for a few ideas.

3. Bride of Frankenstein

She never goes out of style, and on Frankenstein’s arm she is a fabulous choice! Take a note from Kate Beckinsale, who dressed up as the bride of Frankenstein a couple of years ago – mixing and matching is best. Choose a Goodwill dress, cut out a few layers, and add in a few leather accents for the most impact. (photo credit)

4. 80s Rock Star/Madonna bride

You won’t have to look far to find the perfect 80s-era wedding dress at Goodwill. With a little inspiration from 80s icons like Madonna (or rent The Wedding Singer!), your Halloween costume will be legendary either on its own or as the center of a group costume.

5. Jilted/Corpse Bride

Of course, some brides continue to haunt their grooms for years…For fans of Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride, we found a great tutorial using a thrifted dress and a little makeup. This could be a good look for either adults or children (photo credit and tutorial)

And, as you know, when you create your Halloween costume with pieces from Goodwill, you are also supporting Goodwill’s mission: 90 cents of every dollar you spend goes to support our job training programs! So you can feel good and look good this Halloween.

Tell us…which look best fits your style?
