Happy Earth Day!

Thanks to your donations, every day is Earth Day at Goodwill.

Last year, we were able to divert more than 49 million pounds of items from local landfills, including more than 3.6 million pounds of electronic waste, thanks to your donations. Your small act of kindness–donating your gently used items to Goodwill–helps the earth and changes someone’s life.

Want to do more?

Here are some additional things you can do in your own backyard to help protect the planet:

• Think beyond clothing and household items. Goodwill also accepts donations of computers and related items, cars, furniture, and even sports equipment. We have more than 30 stores and donation sites in the Southern Piedmont area that are ready to accept your donations. Plus, tomorrow, we’ll be accepting donations of computers and other electronics at the Matthews Earth Day Celebration.
• Plant a tree. Lowe’s stores across the country are giving away free trees tomorrow in celebration of Earth Day.
• Host a donation drive. Goodwill donation drives are excellent community service projects for corporations, schools, community organizations and places of worship. We can provide a temporary donation center with an attendant on duty to help handle your donations and issue donation receipts.
• Don’t throw away old batteries. Like computers and electronics equipment, batteries contain hazardous metals that can contaminate our soil and water. Instead of throwing them in the trash, use Call2Recycle to find a local store or organization that will recycle your batteries.
