Goodwill® Opens Newly Relocated Job Resource Centers in Gastonia
Job Connection and GoodWork Staffing offices will provide free services to job seekers in Gastonia
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (September 30, 2016) – Goodwill Industries of the Southern Piedmont unveiled today its newly relocated Job Connection and GoodWork Staffing offices in Gastonia, N.C., located at 116 Armstrong Street. The ceremonial ribbon cutting was attended by Fred Padgett, Interim President/CEO of the Gaston Regional Chamber of Commerce, and its members.
The mission of Goodwill is about more than getting people a job, it’s about helping to secure family sustaining employment so that individuals can build a foundation for the future. Goodwill’s Job Connection locations in Charlotte, Gastonia and Rock Hill serve as resource centers for individuals needing assistance in all aspects of the job search process, including hiring opportunities, job fairs, resume and cover letter writing, interview skills and career counseling. Each Job Connection is equipped with Goodwill team members to assist job seekers with accessing technology, workshops or classes for the job search. Partner agencies that will have a monthly presence at the new Goodwill location include Gaston College, Gaston Family Health Services and Gaston County Division of Vocational Rehabilitation Services. AT&T, which provides Gigabit fiber-based services in Gaston County, will offer digital literacy curriculum at this location this fall, free for participants through AT&T’s generous $10,000 contribution to Goodwill towards digital inclusion.
GoodWork Staffing is a full-service nonprofit staffing division of Goodwill Industries of the Southern Piedmont that matches clients seeking meaningful employment with careers in the fields of light industrial, administrative, clerical, customer service and management. GoodWork Staffing offers a variety of services for business clients including temporary, temp-to-hire, direct hire, outsourcing, executive recruiting, on-site management and payroll services at its four locations in Charlotte, Gastonia, Concord and Rock Hill. Proceeds from the revenue generated by GoodWork Staffing fund Goodwill’s job training and employment services free of charge for individuals in the community.
“We’re pleased to have relocated our office in Gastonia to help us better address the needs of those we serve,” said Robin Carson, Senior Vice President of Employment Services at Goodwill Industries of the Southern Piedmont. “We sought out a location that provided greater accessibility for our clients, specifically in regards to those who rely on bus transportation, and we’ve certainly found that convenience and visibility here.”
Proceeds from the sale of donations in Goodwill retail stores help fund services such as the Job Connections and GoodWork Staffing for unemployed and underemployed individuals as they seek to enter the competitive workforce. Goodwill Industries of the Southern Piedmont has two retail store locations in Gaston County: Dixie Village, located at 2549 W. Franklin Boulevard in Gastonia, and Franklin Square, located at 1004 S. Church Street in Lowell. In 2015, Goodwill Industries of the Southern Piedmont provided employment services free of charge to 12,000 individuals in the region thanks to donations from the community.
