Local youth talk issues, solutions

This week we hosted 10 local teens for an event that was part of President Barack Obama’s Roundtable with Young Americans initiative. Students from West Mecklenburg High School, Garinger High School and Midwood High School, among others, participated in a discussion of the top issues that concern them, and brainstormed solutions to help combat them.

At the top on the list? Gang violence, followed by the school dropout rate, teen pregnancy, and a lack of good role models and interesting, productive activities for youth.
