It’s a common workplace mantra: Dress for the job you want, not the job you have.
Luckily, you don’t have to spend a million dollars to do so, especially at
Goodwill. I popped in to the store on
South Boulevard recently to check out the offerings for interviews or workplace attire.
I was impressed with the selection, quality and of course–the prices.
Perhaps the best deal in the store are women’s two-piece suits at $7.49. It’s a definite added-value purchase. Together, a suit such as this Lauren Ralph Lauren wool skirt and jacket ensemble is classically chic. Separately, the jacket and skirt can be worn with other wardrobe pieces: Pair the jacket with trousers. The skirt would look fantastic with a sweater or cardigan and tights. The collar-less jacket could be a completer piece on top of a shift dress.
Seersucker is quintessentially Southern and eternally chic. This lightweight, cotton suit is perfect for managing summer heat with sacrificing style. Again, the styling options for this duo are endless: Wear together with a sleeveless shell and nude shoes for a polished professional (but comfortable) look. Pair the cropped jacket with a denim skirt and sandals for a more casual look.
Wardrobe basics can be found in abundance at
Goodwill as well. For example, this Kay Unger black dress with 3/4 sleeves is decidedly simple and unadorned, but that makes it more versatile. For $4.99, the designer dress is a steal (usually retail in high-end department stores for $150 and up)!
By changing out the shoes and accessories, you’ve got a comfortable, casual workday dress or a chic nighttime look.
Chanel-style chic without the price? Yes please! This Banana Republic jacket is effortlessly sophisticated and infinitely stylish, and for $4.99, it can’t be beat. Wear with black trousers, a black shell sweater, a modest heel and a handful of pearl necklaces and you’ve got an decidedly sophisticated look.
Switch out the pants for skinny denim and some sky-high heels, and you’ve got a classic uptown/downtown look for a night out.
