On Tuesday, October 11, Goodwill’s Operation Independence team participated in Charlotte’s Stand Down event – which was organized to connect veterans and their families with veteran-specific services. At the event, hundreds of veterans who are either homeless or have been homeless in the past had a chance to visit with local service providers and learn about the services that are available to them.
Nicholas Riggins, Wanda Weeks and Vanessa McCants, who are all either veterans or related to veterans, run the Operation Independence program, which focuses on helping military veterans and their families transition into civilian employment. They spent time with veterans, talking about the skills they would need to find a job in today’s tough employment environment.
Veterans and their family members who work with Operation Independence receive professional development, education and targeted industry-specific skills training, all free of charge. For more information about Operation Independence, click here.
