Construction Basics Training

The greater Charlotte area is a fast-growing region, and with that comes a strong need for construction workers! Construction careers are fast-paced, in high demand, and offer livable wages. In Goodwill’s tuition-free Construction Basics training program, you’ll learn the basics of safety, hand and power tools, construction math, materials handling, construction drawings, rigging, and more.

About the Training

Goodwill’s Construction Basics training program will help you quickly develop the knowledge, skills and certifications you need to find employment in the construction industry. Classes take place two nights a week, giving you the flexibility you need to complete your education.

: Goodwill’s Construction Basics training program lasts 10 weeks. Class meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 – 9:30 p.m. This is an in-person program, and you must attend all program dates as scheduled.
: This program takes place in person at the Goodwill Construction Skills Training Center, our state-of-the-art training facility located in west Charlotte.
: If you successfully complete Goodwill’s free Construction Basics training program, you will receive a NCCER (National Center for Construction Education and Research) CORE Level 1 certification and the OSHA 10: Occupational Safety and Health Administration certification.
: In order to take Goodwill’s Construction Basics training program, you must:

Live within our service area

Have a high school diploma or GED equivalency

Be legally authorized to work in the United States

Be able to pass a background check

Successfully pass a math and reading assessment, and have a career conversation
: To successfully complete Goodwill’s Construction Basics training program, you must:

Have at least an 85% attendance rate

Complete NCCER Connect homework before class

Pass all NCCER module tests with a score of 70% or better

Complete all assignments and attend meetings with Career Navigation and Employer Engagement
