Computer Essentials Training – Gastonia

Goodwill’s tuition-free Computer Essentials course, which is offered at our Gastonia Career & Employment Center, is designed to help beginners gain confidence in using computers by covering introductory topics and fundamental skills such as navigating the desktop, how to access different applications, where to store files, and how to search for information on the internet.

About the Training

Goodwill’s Computer Essentials training course will equip you with the basic knowledge and introductory skills you need to feel confident operating a computer in just three days! Classes are offered in person with a live instructor.

: Goodwill’s Computer Essentials course lasts three days. Class meets in person Tuesday – Thursday from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. After class, participants have the option to stay and practice their newly learned skills from 1 – 3 p.m. if they so choose.
: Goodwill’s Computer Essentials course takes place at the Gastonia Career & Employment Center, located at 359 W. Main Avenue.
: Module 1: Introduction to Computers

Are you new to using computers? Do you wonder what people mean when they say “the Cloud,” Windows, or apps? Perhaps you just want to know more about how computers work. In this module, participants will learn basic computer tasks, like navigating the computer, working with the desktop, utilizing the taskbar, and more.

Module 2: Navigating a Computer

Have you ever wondered what makes a computer operate? Have you ever asked yourself “How does a computer know what to do, and when to do it?” or “What application do I need to use to create a resume or my household budget?” In this module, you’ll learn the functions of a computer’s operating system, how to access different applications, where to store files and pictures, and much more.

Module 3: Internet Basics

Would you like to be more efficient in using the internet? Maybe you want to learn more about internet safety, searching for information, or the difference between a web page and a website. This module will teach you about web browsers, the different parts of an internet window, how to navigate a web page, how to search for information and evaluate results, internet safety, and much more.
