          • Course Description: Microsoft Essentials for Business is a free three-week training program that covers Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint! This is an instructor-led virtual training designed with lectures, daily exercises and a final project integrating all three productivity tools. Upon successful completion, students will earn a Microsoft Essentials for Business Certificate of Completion. You will learn to:

            • Course Description: In this free virtual course, you’ll learn how to excel at customer service by building rapport, addressing customer needs, making customers feel heard and maintaining great relationships. The course also focuses on developing customer service problem-solving skills and de-escalating challenging situations.
            • Course Format: You’ll receive access to a self-paced e-learning path from LinkedIn Learning. Each day after independently reviewing the videos, you’ll join the virtual classroom via Zoom to practice and apply the skills and techniques using group exercises and discussions.

                • Course Description: This eight-week training course helps participants quickly develop the knowledge and skills they need to gain employment in the construction industry. In this class, you will learn safety precautions and awareness, and basic math used on a job site. Participants will be able to identify power tools and describe their uses.                 9. INTRO TO BLUEPRINT READING & ESTIMATING

                • Course Description: This seven-week course covers the fundamentals of reading and interpreting residential blueprints and estimating the quantities of materials and labor required to construct a house. This class adds to the skills learned in our Construction Basics course as a way to enhance skills, learning and preparation for an entry-level helper position. This class offers an opportunity to acquire a ProCore certification, a project management software program used by many industry professionals, and is offered in partnership with Central Piedmont Community College.

                10. INTRO TO ELECTRICAL/HVAC

                • Course Description: This nine-week course covers the fundamentals of environmental control systems used in the HVAC industry and is designed to produce an entry-level candidate for the HVAC and Electrical industry. This class includes a basic overview of residential electrical safety and understanding HVAC systems. Additional topics include usage of installation tools, National Electrical Code essentials, understanding symbols and basic schematics, planning and layout, as well as installation of electrical distribution equipment. This course is taught by National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) certified instructors and is offered in partnership with Central Piedmont Community College.

                11. INTRO TO COMMERCIAL DRONES

                • Course Description: This eight-week beginner course helps participants quickly develop the knowledge and skills needed to operate drones. This course includes comprehensive, hands-on training that teaches you the skills and information you need to pilot drones safely and legally. In addition, we’ll cover the types of flight systems available, their capabilities and which one would be best for your use; how drones can be used in business and industry applications; how to apply drone technology to bring efficiencies to business; and drone photography and videography skills.

Your license will allow you to fly your drone commercially in the United States for two years. After two years, you will need to take an FAA Renewal Test.

                      • Read Charlotte has worked with community partners to curate this list of resources to help families keep learning alive at home for children from Pre-K-12th grade amid school closures due to the COVID-19 epidemic.

                      • Coursera collaborates with leading universities and companies to provide affordable, as well as free online courses to help people learn skills, get ready for a career, or earn a certificate or degree. 

                      5. Digital Charlotte

                      • In an effort to continue to support the digital and media literacy skill development of the community, Digital Charlotte has launched open office hours via phone or Zoom meetings. Community members will have an opportunity to ask basic to intermediate computer and internet skills questions and receive support from a facilitator.
                        • Open office hours will take place on Mondays and Wednesdays from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. from Monday, April 27 – Monday, June 7.
                        • Both English and Spanish speaking facilitators will be available for questions.
                        • Community members do not need to sign up to participate.
                        • Participants may join and leave the Zoom meeting at any time during the two-hour window.
