Goodwill’s Microsoft Office Specialist Training courses will teach you the fundamentals of Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel – programs that many hiring managers want their applicants to understand. Upon successful completion of the course, students will receive an industry-recognized certification that never expires.

Microsoft Office Specialist – Word

REQUIREMENTS:

Computer & Employability Skills Training

In today’s workplace, computer skills matter. Whether you want to learn the basics about online job searches or advance your knowledge about specific programs, there’s no better way to invest in yourself than by updating your technical computer skills with our free training classes. Attend one of Goodwill’s hands-on, instructor-led training classes will help make you more marketable to employers. All training is free of charge for Goodwill clients.

Goodwill’s computer lab at the Goodwill Opportunity Campus is open to job seekers Monday through Wednesday from 8:30-11:30 a.m., with staff available to answer questions and provide one-on-one assistance.

COMPUTER BASICS

Are you new to using computers? Do you wonder what people mean when they say the Cloud, Windows, ISP or app? Perhaps you just want to know more about how computers work. When it comes to learning today’s technology, our Computer Basics course has all the basic concepts covered.

When: Every other Monday, 9 AM – 1 PM

Prerequisite: None.

INTERNET 101 & INTERNET EXPLORER

Are you new to the Internet? Are you wondering what’s so important about being connected online? Maybe you just want to know what’s new and how it can benefit you. This introductory course will guide you through the basics while providing up-to-date information on the latest online tools and technologies. Learn about the Internet Explorer web browser and how to use its many functions and features for convenient and safe web browsing.

When: Every other Tuesday, 9 AM – 1 PM

Prerequisite: Completed Computer Basics course or pass assessment test.

MICROSOFT WORD TRAINING

You will learn how to create your first Word document. You will find out how to type where you want to on a page, fix spelling errors, make a list, change page margins, add emphasis to some words quickly and some style, and how to save and print your work.

When: Every other Thursday, 9 AM – 1 PM

Prerequisite: Completed Computer Basics course or pass assessment test.

INTERMEDIATE MICROSOFT WORD TRAINING

This is a course that will help you prepare for a career path in support services such as a Customer Service Representative, Sales Representative, Office Clerk, Administrative Assistant and more. You will learn about hyperlinks, bookmarks, headers, footers, page numbers, watermarks, tables, lists, themes and styles.

Prerequisite: Completed Microsoft Word course or pass Word Digital Literacy Test.

ADVANCED MICROSOFT WORD TRAINING

This course is designed for students who have met the prerequisite and have used Microsoft Word before. You will learn about columns, managing breaks, macros, protecting documents, WordArt, references, SmartArt, inserting and formatting pages, and drawing and modifying shapes.

Prerequisite: Completed the Intermediate Microsoft Word course.

MICROSOFT EXCEL TRAINING

You will learn how to create your first Excel workbook. You will learn about cell basics, modifying columns, rows and cells, formatting cells, printing workbooks and freezing or locking panes.

When: Every other Monday, 9 AM – 12 PM

Prerequisite: Completed Microsoft Word course or pass assessment test.

INTERMEDIATE MICROSOFT EXCEL TRAINING

This course will help you with both business and professional requirements, as well as basic day-to-day challenges. You will learn about importing the contents of a text file, hyperlinks, headers, footers, watermarks, modifying rows and columns, inserting data in cells and ranges, creating and modifying tables, filtering and sorting tables, formatting cells and ranges, and formatting cell content.

ADVANCED MICROSOFT EXCEL TRAINING

This course is designed for those who have met the prerequisite, have used Microsoft Excel before and want to gain a solid understanding of the most powerful features in Excel. You will learn about data validation, formulas and functions, conditional logic, creating charts, and inserting and formatting objects.

RESUME WRITING

Everyone needs a resume when job hunting. Learn which resume formats the experts prefer and how to effectively write summary statements, your employment history and other sections. After completing this course, your resume can be transformed into a powerful tool that will help get you interviews.

When: Every other Friday, 9 AM – 1 PM

Prerequisite: Completed Microsoft Word course or pass assessment test.

INTERVIEW SKILLS

What will your interview be like? What should you take with you? How should you answer interview questions? What should you wear? All of these questions and more will be answered in this tutorial.

When: Every other Thursday, 9 AM – 12 PM

Prerequisite: None.

GASTON COUNTY COURSES:

POWERHOUSE JOB SUCCESS LAB 

This lab provides students with the skills needed to successfully search for and obtain a job using up-to-date computer skills. Instruction will cover the essentials of computer operation and typing skills, Microsoft Office software, financial literacy, and interviewing skills. The goal is to provide students with entry-level skills development, as well as job seeking and job retention strategies. The class meets Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. If you are unemployed, have been notified of a pending layoff, are eligible for the Federal Earned Income Tax Credit, or if you earn wages at or below 200% of the federal poverty guidelines, the course will be offered at no cost to you. Participants must be 18 years of age or older to attend.

CRC WORK READINESS LAB 

This lab is available for those who are interested in work search assistance or Career Readiness Certification (CRC). Work search assistance includes navigating online applications, career assessments, and keyboarding. Career Readiness Certification is an assessment-based credential that gives employers and jobseekers a uniform measure of workplace skills. This national certificate is based on the WorkKeys® System developed by ACT, Inc. To earn a CRC, individuals must undergo testing related to reading, applied math, and locating information.
