How the Staffing Industry Has Evolved

Did you know Goodwill Industries of the Southern Piedmont has a full-service staffing agency named GoodWork Staffing that places individuals in temporary, regular and temporary-to-permanent positions?

GoodWork Staffing’s goal is to provide the most qualified employees and the highest level of service for our customers. This can be quite challenging at times considering how customer expectations continue to rise while unemployment rates continue to decrease – North Carolina is currently at a 5.5% unemployment rate.

When the unemployment rate goes down, our recruitment costs go up. But now, with CareerBuilder, Indeed, ZipRecruiter, and our own website, we have the means to communicate job openings quickly.

Through advancements in technology, the temporary staffing industry has definitely evolved to provide instant results in background screening, e-Verify and assessing a candidate’s skills. So, for an industry that once had the reputation of just sending “warm bodies” to fill jobs, we’ve come a long way.

Employers have a definite advantage by allowing the staffing firm to identify the most talented employees while the staffing firm assumes all of the liability. Once an employee has worked their contracted hours, the employer then hand-picks the most qualified temporary employees to transition onto their payroll. It just makes good business sense to take as much risk out of hiring as possible. This is one of the reasons why the staffing industry continues to trend up!

Here are a few statistics from the American Staffing Association from the temporary employee’s perspective:

  • Half (49%) of staffing employees say it’s a way to get a permanent job.
  • Nine out of 10 said staffing work made them more employable.
  • One-third (35%) were offered a permanent job by a client where they worked on an assignment, and two-thirds (66%) of those accepted the offers of permanent employment.

Every day GoodWork Staffing opens doors of opportunity for our employees, with the hope that the jobs we offer will lead to an income that will sustain each employee’s family. While technology provides the efficiency needed to fill our jobs, our employees are the heart and soul of our business.
