Smart Shopping From a Savvy College Student: Part Two

Hi there and welcome back! If you missed my first blog post (no worries, you can find it here), hello, I’m Lily! I’m a senior PR major at UNC Charlotte and an intern at Goodwill Industries of the Southern Piedmont. I’m writing this five-part blog series to help my peers find fabulous fashions at even better prices. To the readers who are continuing with the series, thank you for the support, and I hope you enjoy part two! Bleeding Green & Gold: The Football/Tailgate Option

Can we all just agree that football season is the best season? Whether it be college games or the NFL, weekends become more fun watching our favorite players throw around the ol’ pigskin. With that being said, fans show their support for their teams with jerseys, t-shirts, embroidered Nike golf shirts, flags and, of course, face painting. Being a senior at UNCC, I have seen the campus grow so much in the three-and-a-half short years I have been here, and it has bred such a high level of pride from my peers and I that I am happy to say that I bleed green and gold – Niner Nation forever.

With football season being on the brink of season change, you get some games where the temperatures start in the mid-to-high 80’s during September and end in the low 50’s by November. This gives game goers a vast slate of outfit choices. You’re sweating in shorts at one game and shivering in jeans and a vest at the next. Welcome to North Carolina weather. So spending oodles and oodles of money on that kind of weather-bipolar closet just isn’t feasible.

For me personally, I go to tailgates decked out in 49ers gear. This usually includes a Nike UNCC 49ers football jersey I got from Goodwill for $4.99. You heard me right. This A-1 find was stumbled upon at the SouthPark Goodwill store one weekend during football season. The best part? It still had the tags on it from the UNCC bookstore. The retail value for this gem is around $90. The demand for Charlotte football jerseys soared through the roof this past football season because it gave everyone a uniform feel, and they were comfy but trendy.

On the flip side, there are people that take old Charlotte t-shirts (like my friends and I have done) from Goodwill, which usually start around $3.99, and use templates from Pinterest to make super cute outfits. Still supporting our team, just with a bit of unique flare. Picks up Niner Nation! We’re SOLD.

Nike Charlotte 49ers Jersey: $4.99, Black Jean Shorts: $3.79, Genuine Leather Cowboy Boots: $5.99, Whole Outfit? Around $15.
