All Goodwill operations – including our stores, attended donation centers, administrative offices and client services – will be closed in observance of Christmas.
If you are a military service member, veteran, spouse or dependent of a service member interested in networking or looking for a career opportunity, please save the date! The event will feature employers from Charlotte and the surrounding areas of North Carolina.
You can register for the hiring event by visiting NC4ME.org. For more information, please call 984-289-1933.
The North Carolina Justice Center in partnership with Charlotte Center for Legal Advocacy, Foundation For The Carolinas and Goodwill Industries of the Southern Piedmont will host Kathryn Edin, sociologist and author of $2 a Day: Living on Almost Nothing in America, for a keynote speech free and open to the public on Wednesday, January 24.
Edin documents the exponential growth of the number of Americans living with almost no cash income in the house and the various ways in which they survive each day. An estimated 1.5 million Americans and 3 million children live on $2 a day or less.
The purpose of the event is two-fold: first, to lift up the realities faced by families surviving in such deep poverty in our state and second, to demonstrate the critical role that systems and policy choices play in alleviating or worsening economic challenges.
An after-work reception with light refreshments is planned for 5:30 p.m. before the keynote address by Kathryn Edin along with a panel response from local advocates and social service providers begins at 6:15 p.m. A Q&A session with the audience will follow formal presentations.
Register: bit.ly/KathrynEdin. You must register to attend, as seating is limited.
