If your house feels like it’s bursting at the seams after the holidays, it may be time to clear out your closet and donate some of your unused things. Here are the top five items that Goodwill needs now.
Clothing and shoes
With the coldest weeks still approaching, think warm and durable winter clothing (gently used coats and jackets, blazers, wool trousers, and boots, to name a few). Kids grow like weeds and it is not unusual for them to outgrow their cold-weather wardrobe mid-season, putting a strain on low-income families. For graduates of our job training programs who are starting to look for employment this year, suits, ties and professional business attire donations are appreciated.
Toys
If your kids received new toys over the holidays, why not donate some of the older ones to free up some space in your house? Donating toys not only teaches your children the importance of sharing but also doubles the shelf life of those Barbies. For a list of what Goodwill accepts, click here.
Electronics
Got a new gadget recently? Remember to recycle your old gadgets, electronics, and computers with us. We accept computers, electronics, games and game systems, cords, peripherals, audio components, printers, flat-screen TVs and more. Donated items that are not suitable for sale at The GRID are de-manufactured by individuals in our employment programs as part of their job training in environmentally-friendly recycling practices. Last year, Goodwill Industries of the Southern Piedmont diverted 2.2 million pounds of electronics and other products from area landfills. Additionally, Goodwill’s partnership with Dell through the Dell Reconnect program ensures that we work with Dell’s authorized product recovery partners to remarket the remaining recycled materials, such as plastics, glass, and metals.
Sporting equipment
Commitments to fitness and health remain the most popular New Year’s resolutions each year, and Goodwill customers need your sports and exercise equipment. If you’re not using that old tennis racket, drop it off at one of our donation sites and we’ll find someone who will put it to good use!
Financial donations
In order to provide our community with quality employment training programs and services, we need your contributions. Cash donations, bequeaths, and other gifts are welcome and very much appreciated. Your gift, in any amount, funds our programs and makes a difference in someone’s life by giving that person an opportunity to go to work.
