Goodwill’s retail team members recently were recognized for their accomplishments and performances in 2009.
At a luncheon on March 4, the Store of the Year award was presented to the Steele Creek store on South Tryon Street. The selection was based on various financial performance and sales goal categories, audits, and mystery shopper performance. Manager Tom Hungate accepted the award on behalf of his team.
“We can’t thank our customers enough for supporting our store at the donation door and on the sales floor,” Hungate said after receiving the award. “Every day, our team members just pull together from top to bottom. We focused on what mattered – receiving donations and thanking donors, selling those donations and having fun while doing it.”
Store Manager of the Year was awarded to Berdie Tessenner, manager of the Shelby store on Earl Road. Tessenner, who has worked for Goodwill for nine years, was nominated by her peers and selected by the Retail Leadership Team. She wiped away tears after hearing her name called.
Goodwill’s Albemarle Road store received the Most Improved Store of the Year award based on sales performance. Store manager Lavetta Funchess accepted for her team. The Excellence in Safety award was presented to the Gastonia store on West Franklin Boulevard. The award honors a location with the best safety record for its employees and customers. Manager Brenda Goodson accepted the award.
