Carolina Panthers Make Large Donation of Bank of America Stadium Furniture to Goodwill®

Sale of furniture donations will fund employment services for local job seekers in the New Year

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (January 6, 2017) – The Carolina Panthers today made a substantial furniture donation to Goodwill Industries of the Southern Piedmont at Bank of America Stadium. The NFL team donated furniture to the nonprofit from the stadium’s club level and common areas, which will soon undergo a major renovation during the team’s offseason. Furniture donated includes: leather chairs, leather couches, barstools and tables.

The donated furniture will be available for the community to purchase in the coming weeks. Proceeds generated from the sale of these donations will fund job training and employment services at Goodwill free of charge for local job seekers in the New Year. Goodwill’s mission is to help individuals overcome barriers to employment – such as lack of skills, experience or education, and those with criminal backgrounds – to achieve family sustaining employment.

“We are incredibly grateful to the Carolina Panthers for this generous donation to Goodwill,” said LaRita Barber, Senior Vice President of Community Engagement at Goodwill Industries of the Southern Piedmont. “The team has a longstanding tradition of philanthropy in the region, and its commitment to our community will start off 2017 on the right foot by helping our neighbors get the training and resources to find work this year.”

For more than 50 years, Goodwill Industries of the Southern Piedmont has assisted individuals with building careers in a variety of in-demand industries including customer service, administrative and business services, construction, and hospitality and tourism. Goodwill also offers free computer literacy courses such as Internet 101 and a Microsoft Office Specialist certification, as well as résumé workshops, mock interviews and other vocational services. Last summer, Goodwill opened the new Goodwill Opportunity Campus in west Charlotte, featuring the 160,000 square foot Leon Levine Opportunity Center housing Goodwill’s resources, plus on-site nonprofit community partners including Charlotte Metro Credit Union, Charlotte Community Health Clinic – West, Common Wealth Charlotte and The Center for Community Transitions to provide wraparound services for clients under one roof.

“The Carolina Panthers are pleased to provide this furniture donation to Goodwill Industries of the Southern Piedmont,” said Riley Fields, Director of Community Relations for the Carolina Panthers. “Knowing the donation will serve our community by providing resources to Goodwill that will assist job training and other employment opportunities means a great deal.”
